Leonie Hasselberg has received her master’s degree in ‘Cultural Anthropology: socio-cultural transformation’ at the Utrecht University (Netherlands). Before, she has studied ‘Cultural Anthropology’, ‘Political Science’ as well as a supplementary programme in ‘Gender Studies’ at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University in Frankfurt am Main. In the course of her studies, she has conducted ethnographic research projects on the socio-cultural change of a Hindu women’s festival in Kathmandu (Nepal) and on food citizenship in a Community Supported Agriculture project (CSA) in Bristol (United Kingdom).

After having finished her master’s degree, Leonie worked freelance for the research project ‘Sustainable Food Practices’ at the University of Luxembourg. At the same time, she has done a federal volunteer service (Bundesfreiwilligendienst) at the nexus Institute for Cooperation Management and Interdisciplinary Research where she was involved in the organisation of the first national Citizens’ Assembly in Germany as well as in conducting a participatory evaluation in the realm of health promotion amongst others.

Since March 2020, Leonie Hasselberg is research associate at TU Berlin’s department ‘Education for Sustainable Nutrition and Food Science’ where she works on the MÜKE project (Model project for the inclusion of families as a target group in measures for the prevention of overweight in children and adolescents). MÜKE is accompanying two pilot projects selected by the Federal Ministry of Health in order to gain insight into the contextual and success factors of obesity prevention with children and their families.

The participatory evaluation is being conducted by the nexus Institute in cooperation with the TU Berlin (Department of Education for Sustainable Nutrition and Food Science), the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences Berlin (Chair of Children’s Health) as well as the HAWK University of Applied Science and Art (Faculty of Social Work and Health). The TU Berlin team is mainly involved in the development of the methodological and theoretical approaches of the evaluation and is in charge of the thematic aspect of food in family contexts.
